The Farley Groundworks team have nearly completed the foundations. This stage is to lay a block and beam floor. Concrete beams are laid and blocks are placed between them. The blocks will also support the timber frame panels. Connections for utilities and drainage are also completed.
The Farley Groundworks team laying the block and beam floor. Concrete beams are laid across and then the concrete blocks are placed in between the beams. This creates a very strong floor.
These pictures show the block and beam floor in more detail. The picture on the left shows some blocks resting on beams. The picture on the right shows a corner – note the black and red plastic ventilation duct which provides ventilation under the floor. Bricks will be placed upon the outside wall. The timber frames will be placed upon the end of the blocks (the inside wall).
The picture on the left shows the utilities connections for the house: there is a pipe for mains water, a mains electric cable and a spare duct for any other services (e.g Cable TV). The picture on the right shows a drainage conection for foul water (e.g. a toilet and a basin) and this is connected to the foul water drainage leading to a sewage treatment plant.
